how to remove guitar brand logo..?
how do you remove the logo of the guitar on the headstock?
I want to remove it and stick my own logo on it, and I don't want to damage the wood...
All you have to do is this:
1 Get a high grit sand paper (around 220 or higher)
2 Gently sand off the finish until you get to the wood. You need
to do this on the ENTIRE headstock!
3 Get 600 grit sandpaper and smooth the wood.
4 Apply 2 coats of matte or semi gloss polyurethane finish to the headstock to prep it for painting.
HINT! For the absolute best results, use a style called French Finishing. To do this, take a clean, old, lint-free rag, dip it into the finish, ring out the excess, then blot the finish onto the wood evenly. Let it dry for an entire day (that means 24 hrs, not 10!). Sand it with 600 grit (or higher if you can find it) extremely lightly, blow off the dust, and repeat.
5 Paint on your Logo or apply a custom made decal. If you decide to use a decal, be sure that you get it paper thin. The only problem with the decal,though, is that it can stretch and look deformed. I personally use gold leaf because it is inexpensive, and if you do it right, it give awesome results.
6 Use the French Finishing technique to apply 10 to 14 coats of high gloss polyurethane, or if you don't want to take the time, 3 coats applied by brush or sponge. You need to sand it between every coat, otherwise you will get a bumpy finish that you do not want.
7 Re-intall all of your hardware and viola! your done!
Note: This is extremely time consuming and take a lot of money and patients. Make sure that this is what you want before your start.
