PLEASE HELP! I think something is wrong with my guitar!! :'( !!!?
I think something is wrong with my guitar! It is a Fender USA Stratocaster (Eric Johnson custom, 2004). I had it hooked up to my amp and I was using it, and all of a sudden, it stopped working. If I touch the strings or any metal part of of the guitar, the amp will pick up on it slightly and make a slight humming noise. I know there is not anything wrong with the amp chord or amplifier itself, because the first thing i did was try a different amp chord (when I tried the guitar still did not work), and then I plugged another one of my guitars in to see if it was the amp that was having problems. but he second guitar I tried worked. So I think there might be something wrong with my guitar! Please if anyone could offer any suggestions or help me, I will be so thankful!! please i you can I would appreciate it so much!!!!! Chritina, very possibly it is your output jack that needs attention. Remove the screws holding the output jack retainer (dress plate) to the guitar body, and pull the jack assembly out far enough to check both the wiring and the jack itself. In most cases, all that is needed is to wipe a cotton swab dipped in alcohol across the contact surfaces, and then bend the sheet metal tang in slightly to make firmer contact with the plug tip. If the wiring is broken or loose, it will need re-soldering. Make sure there is no foreign matter inside the jack that is preventing good electrical contact with the plug tip and ring. If none of this helps, remove the pickguard assembly (see http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylv=3?qid=20081114082743AAni9cl , ignoring the replacement references) and inspect the wiring. Look for a detached wire, a component that appears burned, or contact surfaces that are oxidized. Use a contact cleaner, if necessary. There is not that much involved in the basic Stratocaster signal path, so performing each of these exercises should reveal the problem. Let me know if I can help further. Best regards, Dana
